Tools Publications Blogs and stuff Conferences Contact detail My research I am a second year PhD student at University of Central Lancashire, Preston, England. My PhD is titled "The Effects of Language Skills and Visual Processing Skills on Text Input Tasks with Children", and I am very fortunate to have my PhD supervised by Dr Janet Read at UCLan and Prof. Alan Dix at Lancaster University. I am interested in seeing if there are any differences between dyslexic and non-dyslexic people in carrying out text input tasks, and how computers can help dyslexics in processing information. I have a general interest in mental "disabilities" such as Dyslexia, ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome (as I have all these), Autism, etc, as well as physical disabilities such as visual, audio and physical impairements. I completed my BSc in Computer Science at Queen Mary, University of London in 2003, and my MSc in Human Computer Interaction at UCLan in 2005. When I'm not shifting through logs of typing errors made by children, I am in class rooms teaching HCI module at UCLan, or training people on personal organisation, task management and time management. I am currently undertaking a training course in teaching, and a diploma in Child Psychology. I am a SETPOINT ambassador for Lancashire in promoting science and engineering in further education to local schools. On the rare occassions that I find some spare time, I am working backstage on gigs and club nights. Tools CPSet (Children's Phrase Set) is a phrase set which contains 500 phrases designs to be used with children in text input method evaluations. you can download the text file here PHANTIM (PHrase ANalyser for Text Input Methods) is a php based program which anaylises phrase sets for basic phrase set data such as how many words, data on the number of trigger words that are contained in the set and produces a frequency table for unique words and for trigger words. The table can also be ordered according to several measures. To test a phrase set, simply copy and paste it to here (each phrase should be on a new line). Publications Kano, A. & Read, J. C.
